Washington D.C – President-elect Trump prepares to assume office and execute his promises to carry out mass deportations and take swift and draconian actions to overhaul our immigration system Hector Sanchez Barba, Mi Familia Vota, President and CEO releases the following statement:

“The Latino community contributes so much to the economic and cultural benefit of our country. We are the backbone of this nation, providing so much to our collective well being and sustaining this country during the most difficult times. Whether it was Covid or the fires in Los Angeles Latinos always step up.

We know that immigrants, whether in the farming industry, construction, multi-billion dollar corporations or leading scientists, are essential. Their hard work and tenacity is a testament to all of the things that make our country great. Let's be clear, immigrants don't just contribute - Immigrants are the foundation of this country.

Unfortunately, Latinos and immigrants are set to bear the brunt of cost increases and reign of terror associated with Donald Trump's harmful MAGA agenda. The affordability crisis uniquely impacts Latinos; The majority of Latinos are working class and continue to face the economic challenges from these past four years due to COVID shutdowns, inflation, gas prices, housing costs. That is why Mi Familia Vota has consistently stood in frontlines fighting for policies that support our community.

Now, with Trump returning to office all of that progress is at stake. We know that MAGA politicians are eyeing more than $5 trillion in cuts to bankroll Trump's top priorities this year, including tax cuts for billionaires and mass deportations. The early list of potential spending cuts includes changes to Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act, and popular climate measures.

These cuts alone will deeply hurt Latinos who are in climate change frontline communities and have benefited from the cost-saving energy rebates in the Clean Energy Plan. Worse, nine million Latinos use the Affordable Care Act and 6.5 million or about 10% of all Medicare enrollees. Setting those cuts aside, Trump's economic policies, including tariffs, mass deportations, and tax cuts, will likely hurt Latinos and most Americans.

We know that an engaged and educated community is the force that will drive change in this country. Mi Familia Vota is committed to fighting for our community and opposing Trump’s attacks on our  community and national priorities. Now is the time to take action, to organize, to remain unbowed and to stand tall. Together we will continue building political power like never before.”
