Orlando, FL – In response to Tom Keen winning his election to the Florida House of Representatives in a special election held Tuesday, Soraya Marquez, Florida State Director, Mi Familia Vota, released the following statement:

“The victory of the new State Representative Tom Keen from District 35 in Orange and Osceola counties results from sustained, firm, and strategic work. Independents chose who best represented the community, not succumbing to the pressure of the opposing candidate’s money avalanche and the MAGA agenda pushed by the Florida governor’s office.

When Latinos are organized, when we educate our community, we turn out and win elections. Mi Familia Vota made 36,510 calls and talked with 2,215 voters for this special election. The margin of victory in this election was around 500 votes; we made the difference.

We must engage Latinos in ALL elections because they do make a difference. We came out against MAGA policies at the state legislature, and we were able to be a critical part of flipping this Florida state house seat. We are just starting this election season; more to come from us in Florida.”
