ORLANDO, FL – Soraya Marquez, Mi Familia Vota Florida State Director, issued a statement on Gov. Ron DeSantis’ congressional gerrymander proposal:
“Redrawing districts to seize power is a blatant attack on democracy. Politicians who pick their voters silence the will of the people and trample our democratic foundations. When those in power rig the rules mid-game, they destroy any hope of fairness.
“Changing district lines won’t erase our communities' needs and voices. It makes our fight for justice and participation more urgent than ever. Democracy only survives when districts are drawn to empower people—not when they’re rigged for partisan gain.
“At Mi Familia Vota Florida, we relentlessly organize, defend voter rights, and mobilize our communities every single day. Latino community members demand action—they are outraged by ICE’s racial profiling and by the crippling cost of living that threatens our families.
"Gov. DeSantis and other MAGA politicians can redraw maps and push partisan schemes, but they can’t redraw reality. Latinos are fed up with harmful policies, and we are demanding change. We encourage Floridians to join us in organizing, speaking out, and ensuring our voices are heard in every district. Call your state representatives and demand fair representation today."
