Claims that Mail-In Voting is Linked to “Massive Voter Fraud” Are False
WASHINGTON, DC – In a 7AM rant on his social media feed, Trump announced plans to sign an executive order to end mail-in voting while also touting false allegations of “massive voter fraud” and attacking the use of electronic voting machines. In the post, he falsely claimed that the states are “merely an ‘agent’ for the Federal Government in counting and tabulating the votes” and claimed they “must do what…the President of the United States, tells them.”
Hector Sanchez Barba, President and CEO of Mi Familia Vota, issued the following statement:
"The President likes to use the word ‘hoax,’ but his false claim that mail-in ballots are designed for cheating is the real hoax. There is a concerted and aggressive effort to discriminate, to minimize, to marginalize, and to suppress the voices of diverse communities that demands our immediate attention. Mail-in ballots provide voters with an important option to exercise their right to vote in cases where they are unable to get to a polling site, either because of a disability, travel, or other reasons. Trump himself has voted by mail. It is a vital tool for the functioning of our democracy that helps provide access to the ballot box for American citizens, and Mi Familia Vota will stand up to defend it.
We are also troubled by the President’s claim that states are only ‘agents’ of the federal government and must conduct the upcoming midterm elections in any way he orders. States and counties oversee elections for a reason, and this power grab is the real attempt to cheat. This is not an isolated incident.
Mi Familia Vota is fighting for a future where Latino voices shape and advance policies that promote the health, safety, and prosperity of diverse communities across the country, and we will work tirelessly against any effort to block access to the ballot box. Our families vote, and we will NOT let that right be stolen."
