WASHINGTON, D.C. – Mi Familia Vota President and CEO Hector Sanchez Barba issued the following statement on the 14th anniversary of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA):

“Fourteen years after the Department of Homeland Security began to apply Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, it’s time for Congress to legislate a permanent solution for DREAMers. The Trump Administration has purposely slowed the processing of renewal applications, putting jobs and livelihoods at risk for DACA recipients who have done everything they were asked to do and more, including proving themselves over and over again every two years. DREAMers were brought to the United States by their parents through no fault of their own, have grown up here, are American in every way but on paper, and have contributed meaningfully in academics, medicine and nursing, and even law since DACA was put in place. Throwing their lives into limbo is bad for them, but also bad for the economy and bad for their communities all across the country. Congress must act. Mi Familia Vota will continue to stand with DACA recipients and insist on a permanent solution.”
