WASHINGTON, DC – Today, California U.S. Senator Alex Padilla will deliver a Spanish response following Trump’s State of the Union. In response, Mi Familia Vota Board Chair, Efrain Escobedo issued the following statement.

“The words we will hear from Senator Padilla is not just a political moment, it's an unapologetic and powerful reflection of the cultural values that our nation holds. At a moment when immigrant families are being torn apart and living in fear, speaking directly to our communities in Spanish matters. It says: you are seen. You belong. Your voice counts.

“Protecting our democracy means putting those under attack at the center of the fight. It means making sure families hiding in fear tonight know that we stand with them. And it means inviting every immigrant, every ally, every believer in human rights to find strength in their vote. Because we the people have the right to decide what kind of government we want.

“We stand with Senator Padilla and the millions of Latino voters choosing civic participation over fear. We will hold the line. We will protect our right to vote. And together, we will continue defending democracy.”
