WASHINGTON, DCMi Familia Vota President and CEO Hector Sanchez Barba today welcomed the rulings from two judges that freezing payments for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is unlawful, and having the Trump Administration use contingency funding. At the same time, the Mi Familia Vota CEO lamented that the country's biggest anti-hunger program remains underfunded as the Administration will only pay half benefits, and called for the restoration of SNAP cuts made in the President’s One Big Beautiful Bill.

Hector Sanchez Barba, President and CEO of Mi Familia Vota, issued the following statement:

“Millions of families are going hungry because SNAP nutrition benefits ran out of funding over the weekend — all because of Donald Trump's government shutdown. A court ordered them to use a contingency fund they didn't want to use, but the Trump Administration told the court today it could still take weeks to partially fund benefits. At the same time, Republicans in Congress are going around touting a bill to fund snap during shutdowns, when they have the majority in Congress and are responsible for this shutdown in the first place. That's not the worst of it, though. Trump's One Big Ugly Bill, the one they shoved down the American people's throats just before the Fourth of July — included the largest cuts in history to SNAP nutrition benefits. So we're working to make sure voters across the country know the facts, and to hold them accountable so that they stop playing games with the government programs and benefits vital to hard working Americans. We need the government to reopen, but we need the cuts to health care and nutrition benefits restored from the cuts in the One Big Ugly bill that funded tax cuts for billionaires. Mi Familia Vota will keep fighting for our families, and educating voters to hold their elected officials accountable.”
