No Victory in President Trump’s Moral Loss
Washington, D.C.- In a 5-4 ruling, the United States Supreme Court ruled to continue President Trump’s promised Muslim Ban.
Mi Familia Vota Executive Director, Ben Monterroso, issued the following statement:
“This is a grave moral loss for our country, an affront to every Muslim American, and a defeat to those who seek to uphold American values. The Islamophobia and xenophobia underlying Trump’s craven Muslim ban will only serve to keep families separated. There is nothing humane in creating barriers to family unity.
“President Trump’s words were clear to both supporters and opponents; he laid bare his intent to keep Muslims out of this country. While we often cast this as anti-Muslim, we forget that it is also anti-immigrant, and fundamentally anti-American. There is no victory in this court ruling, not even for the Trump administration. This is a titanic loss for our country.
“The forthcoming midterms will provide a place for us to mobilize our votes. Our values are on the line and we must show up to defend them through our vote.”
