Mi Familia Vota’s Reaction to White House Announcement on Expanded Protections to Refugees

WASHINGTON, DC – The following is a statement from Ben Monterroso, executive director of Mi Familia Vota, on the White House’s expansion of its Central American refugee processing program.

“We are pleased that the Obama administration has enhanced its programs and protections for immigrant families, especially women and children, fleeing violence from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. These are people who have been left with no other recourse than to flee their home countries.

“The expansion also helps relieve the humanitarian crisis affecting thousands of families and communities in these countries and reaffirms the nation’s global leadership in humanitarian and refugee protections.

“But now it is up to us to help elect candidates who are willing to work and fight for the well-being of all immigrants and their families.
