Mi Familia Vota Congratulates Alex Padilla On Becoming California’s First Latino Senator
Washington D.C. – Alex Padilla, California’s secretary of state, today was chosen by Gov. Gavin Newsom to serve in the U. S. Senate — an appointment that tears down a barrier for Latinos that has stood as long as California’s statehood.
To mark this historic occasion Hector Sanchez Barba released the following statement:
“There are 40 million Latinos in California, we make up 39% of the state’s population, today our community is honored for its long time contributions to California with the historic appointment of Secretary of State Alex Padilla to the Senate. He has been a tireless advocate for the Latino community and will serve the people of California and our country with distinction. We applaud Governor Gavin Newsome for his forward-thinking and history-making appointment. We look forward to working with Senator-Elect Padilla in his new role to ensure that the policy priorities of the Latino community are heard in the Senate.”
