PHOENIX, Ariz. — The following is a statement from Ben Monterroso, executive director of Mi Familia Vota:
“Mi Familia Vota commends the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for blocking a state law that created unnecessary barriers to being able to cast a vote.
As an organization whose mission it is to build Latino political power through the electoral process, we celebrate any step towards making our democracy as inclusive as possible for as many people as possible. Our democracy flourishes when all eligible voters are able to cast a vote.
This law made it a felony for groups like Mi Familia Vota to collect early ballots and deliver them to polls. As a nonpartisan organization that specifically works with low-propensity Latino voters, we applaud efforts to give all voters meaningful access to the ballot box.”
