MFV Participates in Nationwide Climate Strike with Latino Students

Youth demand immediate Congressional action to mitigate impacts of climate change

Houston, Texas — Youth across the United States are leading a coordinated school strike to bring attention to the impacts of a rapidly warming planet and climate change.

Mi Familia Vota issued the following statement:

We commend our youth for taking leadership roles in the problems that our nation and our world are confronting today. Mi Familia Vota is supporting and participating in this youth climate strike in some of the states with the highest Latino populations, which are also regions that have experienced the brunt of our climate crisis, and these young activists are being driven by their lived experiences as well as the courage to fight for their futures.

This strike boldly demands that elected officials at the local, state, and national level take immediate action to regulate polluters and to adopt 100% clean energy plans. Youth are also using the strike as a call for voter registration among their eligible peers and adults. 2020 will be of magnitude importance and Mi Familia Vota will continue to support and engage the youth population in the electoral process.
