The Environmental Protection Agency must uphold the Clean Power Plan
The Trump administration’s EPA has announced that, in spite of intense public opposition, it plans to repeal environmental regulations that limit pollution and boost renewable energy sources.
A public hearing on the proposed repeal of the Carbon Pollution Emission Guidelines for Existing Stationary Sources: Electric Utility Generating Units (commonly known as the Clean Power Plan) was hosted in San Francisco. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is required to take public comments before it repeals climate change regulations.
Mi Familia Vota Executive Director, Ben Monterroso, issued the following statement:
“It’s plain and simple that dismantling the Clean Power Plan is yet another attack from the Trump administration and Scott Pruitt on the health and well-being of Latino communities. Our families suffer disproportionately from the effects of air pollution and climate change. The health consequences begin at childhood with asthma and other respiratory diseases, and then these carry into adulthood and compound with heart disease and other cardiovascular issues, all of which are aggravated by pollution.
“The Trump administration continues to benefit big polluters and place profits over our communities and families. We will continue to organize and rally to hold elected officials accountable through the power of our vote in November and beyond.”
