Congress has a responsibility to control Trump’s anti-immigrant policies

Washington, D.C. – President Trump unveiled a new rule to eliminate access to asylum for migrants arriving at the U.S. Mexico border.

Ben Monterroso, executive director of Mi Familia Vota issued the following statement:

“President Trump experienced an enormous defeat this week when voters decisively voted against his anti-immigrant agenda. Today, a federal appeals court also ruled against Trump, upholding the DACA program. Already angered by his party losing control of the House, fighting with reporters and expediting Jeff Sessions’ resignation, Trump is back to bashing immigrants, this time with increased hostility by attacking asylum seekers. Immigrants cannot continue to bear the brunt of Trump’s anger.

“We expect for our congressional representatives — those now serving and those who will take office in January — to vigorously defend immigrants.

“It gives us hope that despite having to confront the racism from Trump and his base, asylum seekers still choose to see the best of America. They deserve the opportunity to seek refuge in our country.”
