Congress Acts to Stop Trump’s Sham Emergency

In response to public protest, the Senate voted against Trump’s national emergency declaration

The Senate voted 59-41 in support of the Castro resolution to terminate Trump’s national emergency.

Mi Familia Vota issued the following statement:

The American people were vindicated by Congress today after the Senate joined the House and voted to overturn Trump’s national emergency declaration. Trump’s declaration, rooted in fear mongering and the intentional misrepresentation of asylum seekers and immigrants, led to widespread public outcry. Our voices and collective organizing helped give Congress the courage to face President Trump and vote according to truth and principle.

Mi Familia Vota will continue to encourage the Latino community to use their voices to move Congress in the right direction. The Senate’s vote today proves that both chambers of Congress can come together to resolve our nation’s issues. President Trump must stop promoting the sham emergency and allow Congress to work on real solutions for our needs in healthcare, education, our economy and immigration solutions.
