On September 10, 2018, Mi Familia Vota held its inaugural Advocacy Awards to celebrate its history of championing civil rights and social justice issues and honor the legacy of Eliseo Medina, co-founder of Mi Familia Vota. Since the founding of Mi Familia Vota, our movement has only grown- resulting in operations in six states across 15 cities. In 2018, we celebrated a milestone registration of 450,000 voters across our constituencies.
Mi Familia Vota also honored Lee Gelernt, the deputy director of the Immigrants’ Rights Project at the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), with the MFV Advocacy Award for his work against the Trump administration’s separation of children and parents at the U.S.-Mexico border; challenging Texas SB 4, anti-sanctuary city law; and litigating the Trump administration’s travel ban.
A special thank you to renowned journalist Maria Elena Salinas and MFV presidents, Marcelo Gaete and Dr. Gabriela Lemus. We also want to thank all our supporters, who have steadfastly advocated for the principles that Mi Familia Vota has always stood for and that Eliseo Media modeled with distinction. Together we keep each other standing strong and continue our vision to, “build Latino political power.”
