WASHINGTON, DC – Mi Familia Vota has issued a statement on the sexual assault allegations against the late César Chávez.
“We are deeply shocked and saddened by the serious allegations that have emerged regarding César Chávez. These reports of abuse are against everything we stand and fight for every day. We have looked to the farmworker movement as a source of hope and justice, and we must support them collectively as they continue fighting for their rights.
“Mi Familia Vota emphatically stands with survivors of sexual assault and supports women who share their stories of abuse. Anyone who has experienced harm deserves to be heard, believed and supported with dignity and care.
“We also stand with Dolores Huerta, whose courageous statement reminds us of the complexity of this moment and the importance of listening to those who come forward. Her voice, and the voices of all survivors, must guide us as we seek truth and accountability.
“Our commitment to farmworkers, immigrants and the Latino workers remains unwavering. This movement has never been about any one individual. Rather, it has always been about the collective power, resilience and dignity of our people.
“Accountability is a grounding principle in any movement. We will continue to fight for justice, to center those impacted, and to ensure that our work reflects the values we demand of our leaders.”
