WASHINGTON, D.C. – Héctor Sánchez Barba, President and CEO of Mi Familia Vota, issued the following statement after the House of Representatives today approved a bill that the Senate passed a month ago to fund most of DHS, but not ICE and CBP:
"Today, the House did what it should have done two months ago: allow funding for DHS agencies like TSA and FEMA, without including ICE and Border Patrol. Trump and his MAGA allies shut down the government because they did not want to put common-sense guardrails on DHS immigration agencies in order to stop their abuses against immigrants and U.S. citizens alike.
“This is a testament to the organizing and action in the Latino community and with our allies to demand accountability from ICE and immediate action from Congress. Mi Familia Vota will continue to inform and empower the Latino community to exercise our fundamental rights and to stand up to the indiscriminate targeting, harassment, and violence committed against our community by the Trump administration. Our families vote, and we will hold our elected officials accountable at the ballot box."
