WASHINGTON, D.C. – Hector Sanchez Barba, President and CEO of Mi Familia Vota, issued the following statement :

“This weekend, ICE inexcusably denied Governor Mikie Sherrill access to an ICE facility in New Jersey, and later used pepper spray on a group of protesters, including U.S. Senator Andy Kim.

"ICE’s indiscriminate targeting of people all across the country, simply because of how they look, repeated examples of excessive use of force, and a lack of transparency are all endemic to a broader corruption at the heart of how this administration is operating, and to the tens of billions of dollars they want to continue to pump into ICE and CBP with no accountability.

“Mi Familia Vota will continue to call on immigration authorities to respect due process and civil liberties. Monday's protests were largely peaceful and must remain so. We will also continue to call for the unmasking of federal agents so that they cannot abuse anyone, regardless of status, anywhere in the country without accountability, and for an end to this unparalleled level of corruption and abuse of power. This must stop.”
