DENVER, CO – Following the passage of SB26-121, Christo Luna, Colorado Deputy State Director for Mi Familia Vota, issued the following statement:

"We condemn the passage of SB26-121 as it is a direct attack on farmworkers and a dangerous step backward for worker protections in our nation. By raising the overtime threshold from 48 to 56 hours, regardless of the intensity or seasonal nature of the work, and denying overtime compensation until that threshold is met, this policy devalues the dignity and labor of farmworkers. It sends a clear message that their contributions are worth less, even as they carry one of the most physically demanding and essential roles in our economy.”

“Supporters argue that this bill adds flexibility to adjust to rising costs that threaten the economic viability of the agriculture industry. Let's be clear: This bill is not about economic flexibility; it is a clear decision to put profits over people. Rising costs are not an excuse to eliminate worker protections.“

“At Mi Familia Vota, we stand with farmworkers and will continue to fight for the rights and protections they deserve. Farmworkers are integral to our communities and deserve dignity, fair compensation and full labor protections – no exceptions.“

“We call on Governor Jared Polis to veto this bill. Mi Familia Vota will hold our leaders accountable and ensure constituents remember who stood with farmworkers, and who did not.”
