WASHINGTON, DC – Mi Familia Vota President and CEO Hector Sanchez Barba praised the strong turnout in California against Donald Trump’s partisan gerrymandering, and strong Latino turnout in other races around the country:
Hector Sanchez Barba, President and CEO of Mi Familia Vota, issued the following statement:
“Voters had the first big opportunity to push back on Donald Trump’s assault on American democracy, with a huge turnout in California on Proposition 50. They said no to the Republican gerrymandering and Trump’s push to rig the 2026 midterm elections. Mi Familia Vota is proud to have worked to help inform voters, including a phone bank effort that reached out to more than 151,000 California voters. Mi Familia Vota is also heartened at reports that turnout among Latino voters was strong in states like Virginia and New Jersey, playing a decisive role in key races there. We are working around the clock to keep voters informed about what’s at stake, because the voices of Latino voters have never been more necessary or important. Our communities have been under attack, from cruel tactics to separate families, to harmful policies that criminalize and dehumanize the immigrant community across the country, all while our families continue to feel the economic hit from Trump’s tariffs and the Big Ugly Bill’s cuts to health care and nutrition benefits. Latino voters understand that ICE is now better funded than most country’s militaries because of this President, and that we have to pay more for everything because the majority in Congress prioritizes tax cuts for billionaires. Today, we showed that our voices and our votes matter. Mi Familia Vota will keep fighting for our families, and educating voters so that they can exercise their fundamental rights and hold their elected officials accountable at the polls.”
