Description:
This intensive two-day training course is designed to complement the citizenship and voter registration drive occurring in Arizona. The course will cover acquisition and derivation of citizenship, and the requirements for naturalization, including residence, physical presence, good moral character, civics and English language requirements and exemptions, disability waivers, oath requirements and the application process. The training is interactive with individual and group exercises. Arizona CLE credits may be requested and CLINIC is an approved CLE provider for California.
This training is for nonprofit community-based organizations with IRS 501(c)(3) status, and attorneys and legal worker staff of private law offices. This training is intended for legal workers and lawyers new to this area of immigration law as well as more experienced practitioners in need of review or updates. If you are registering as staff of a a nonprofit program, you must fax a copy of your IRS 501(c)(3) letter designating your agency as a nonprofit entity to CLINIC at 415-394-8696 to the attention of Chris Ozaki. (CLINIC affiliates are not required to send IRS letters.) Your registration will be confirmed upon receipt of this letter. If you are an attorney, please include your state bar number. Payment is by credit card only.
The training will be presented by Sarah Bronstein and Debbie Smith, Staff Attorneys, CLINIC. Francisco Heredia of Mi Familia Vota will speak about citizenship workshops in Arizona and a USCIS naturalization officer has also been invited to speak.
Please note that the registration fee does NOT include a training manual. You are not required to purchase a manual, and other training materials will be provided. If you wish to purchase <i>Naturalization and U.S Citizenship: The Essential Guide, 10th Edition</i>, by the Immigrant Legal Resource Center, you must pay an additional $110 fee in advance at the time of registration. Note: the manual is not available for purchase at the training.
Note that if you are ordering the manual, you must do so when registering by October 10th; after that date, it will be too late to order the book in time for receipt at the training. There are a number of hotels located near the training site in downtown Phoenix, Arizona. Hotels in which the workers are represented by the union UNITEHERE include Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel, The Westin Phoenix Downtown, and the Wyndham Phoenix. You may be able to obtain the most reasonable hotel rates by using on-line hotel websites such as Expedia and Travelocity.
